Ill Manors: Tedx Lecture

Ill Manors Tedx lecture

What does Ben drew say about the opportunities for young people and how did this inspire ill manors?
Ben Drew (Plan B) believes that the younger generation are not given any second chances, Plan B gave an example of when he was kicked out of school and because no other school would take him he ended dropping out of school altogether, this was due to other schools not giving him an opportunity to reform that he got up to allot of illegal crime base activities in his younger years. He also talks about the government closing down community centres therefore the younger generations have nothing better to do in the summer as a result getting involved in violent activities. this inspired ill manors because he said he created opportunities for most of the young casts of ill manors and talks a bit about the boy in 'top boy' and how being rejected of ill manors made him more determined and other roles. he thinks of himself as an opportunity maker for young adults to distract them from the street.

What is plan B's beliefs/politics? What are his values/ideology?
Ben Drews views and beliefs on the government and politics itself are negative, Plan B believes that they are the reason that gang activities and youth crime has rapidly increased due to the governments lack of presence in the rural parts of London. He thinks that he himself can be the one to create opportunities for the younger generation however he knows that he can only help people in the areas that he specialises in, he gives examples to how he tried helping a youth who didn't make it into the Ill Manors film but he managed to get the leading role in "Top Boy" he was trying to set an example to how the littlest help can be effective to help a youth turn into a caring honest man/woman.

Who is the target audience in the Tedx lecture?

Firstly, the audience that are visible in the Tedx lecture were mostly white middle class men and women. This is completely different to the target audience of the music video. The fact that the target audience was different for the music video and the Tedx lecture suggests that he is trying to target the mass market instead of the niche.

What does Plan B say about the media?
Plan B believes that its because of all the negative representation of teenagers is the cause for why people are too afraid to walk on the same side of the street as a group of youths. Furthermore he thinks that because of the extreme misrepresentation that the media do the younger generation are starting to feel like they are outcasts in society which is why they do desperate things to try show that they have power of some sort. It could also be because of this that they think that society already see them as being bad which is why they try fit the image that is being put on them.
